美国电影金球奖(Golden Global Award)始于1943年，是由好莱坞外国记者协会主办，是美国影视界最重要的奖项之一，金球奖共设有24个奖项，金球奖的被提名者名单通常是在圣诞节前公布，颁奖晚会则选在一月中旬举行。金球奖颁奖晚会的举办地点曾多次变动，不过近几年似乎已经固定在贝弗利山的希尔顿饭店。作为每年第一个颁发的影视奖项，金球奖被许多人看作是奥斯卡奖的风向标。近十几年来二者结果的对比似乎也能很好地证明这一点
金球奖应该是美国最经营有方的影视奖项之一，组织颁发这个奖的好莱坞外国记者协会在联邦政府登记的性质属于——慈善基金协会，作为一个“非营利性组织”，该协会的收入是免税的。
